A. M. Best provides an opinion as to an insurer's financial strength and ability to meet ongoing obligations to policyholders. For each of Keenan Marine's insurers, Best's opinions are based on a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the insurer's balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile. Best's analytical process incorporates a host of measures, including comparisons to peer and industry standards as well as assessments of an insurer's operating plans, philosophy and management.

Standard & Poors
Standard & Poors refers to its analysis as an evaluation of the insurer's "Claims-Paying Ability". S&P evaluates an insurer's financial capacity to meet its obligations and forms its opinion by examining industry-specific risk, management factors, operating performance and capitalization. S&P's rating scheme uses a letter grade scale and categories, as illustrated below. Relative status within a letter grade is indicated by a plus or minus following the letter grade.
